EY 2021 Better Working World Data Challenge
Published: September 15, 2021
It all started when I took a course named Data Analytics (WIH2001) druing my semester 4. My lecturer, Dr. Hoo had introduced us to this challenge. He said we can took this challenge as our group assignment. Therefore, me and my friends also reach a consensus to take this challenge as our assignment topic.
Over 8,500 students and young professionals from more than 115 countries took part in the Challenge to develop an automated fire-edge detection and prediction model and help firefighters make more timely and informed decisions, and ultimately helping to save lives, property and biodiversity from the effects of wildfires. My team managed to get the 3rd spot in Malaysia, and the 21st spot in the APAC region for challenge 1 category. We built an automated binary semantic segmentation machine learning model to help us classify whether a given pixel in an infrared linescan image is on fire or not. Link to Challenge Github.
I participated with my friends Soo Mun Chong and Koh Li Yang. It was my pleasure and lucky to team up with them. I want to credit my friend, Soo Mun Chong who did mostly the architecture of the model. He is really an awesome guy. Also, my friend Koh Li Yang who tried a lot on testing and tuning the parameter of the model and made the best result and prediction to get us into the top position.
